Figures and Landscapes
Etel Adnan, Jean Dubuffet, Jaume Plensa, and Fabienne Verdier
Both painters Etel Adnan and Fabienne Verdier explore with energy and vivid colors the density, contrast and smoothness of real and imaginary landscapes, one through etching and the other though silkscreen. E. Adnan revisiting landscapes from her native Lebanon or from California where she lived many years before establishing in France. F. Verdier being recently deeply impressed by the cezannian Ste Victoire. Their latest prints clearly demonstrate the capacity to enchant of these two women.
For Spanish sculptor Jaume Plensa, the human figure and the magic of music are two poles of his work. The infinite horizons and whirls of songs are evident in his large etching “Symétrie”, while the human figure absorbed in a circle of words is the core of his new prints “Alchemists”. During forty years of stunning creativity, French painter and sculptor Jean Dubuffet re-invented the representation of men in an urban or country landscape, as in the “Faits mémorables” silkscreen, or with his gallantly bedecked wanderer “Fougère au chapeau”.

Etel Adnan was born in Beirut, Lebanon, in 1925. Poet, painter, she lived many years in California. She currently lives and works in Paris, France. Adnan’s career spans several decades and encompasses a wide range of media—including painting, drawing, tapestry, film, ceramics, and leporello artist books.
Jean Dubuffet (1901 – 1985) was a French painter, sculptor and writer. His approach to aesthetics embraced so called ""low art"" and eschewed classic standards of beauty in favor of a more authentic and humanistic approach to image-making. Dubuffet enjoyed a prolific art career, both in France and in America, and was featured in many exhibitions. He produced an important print work from the 40’s until the early 80’s.
Jaume Plensa — born in Barcelona, Spain, in 1955, where he currently lives and works — creates sculptures and installations that unify individuals through connections of spirituality, the body, and collective memory. Literature, music, language, and history have been key guiding elements throughout his career. Since the 80’s, Plensa has developped an important graphic work.
Fabienne Verdier was born in France, in 1962. After years of studies in China, she currently lives and works near Paris. Her painting is focused on her fundamental areas of interest : the music and the dynamism of forces of nature, their instantaneous, enduring and incessant movement. Creating new tools (giant brushes), she proposes to enable viewers to access the infinite world of energy and transformations she extensively explores.
