Jason Middlebrook: Spending Time With Nature
Jason Middlebrook: Spending Time With Nature
Jason Middlebrook
Jason Middlebrook is a mixed-media artist who works in sculpture, installation, works on paper and site-specific projects. Middlebrook is known for his use of the natural world illustrating the interaction of nature and humans at the moment they collide. Middlebrook has long used “live-edge” slabs of wood along with planks, trunks, rough-hewn boards and logs in his work. These rough bark slabs allow the artist to create imagery that accentuates the fact that this was once a living part of nature. He then creates volume and depth by painting geometric patterns in response to the rings on the wood.

My time at Graphicstudio has been so wonderful on many levels. Graphicstudio has introduced multiple approaches to art making and the experimentation has allowed me to explore in expansive directions. My favorite part, other than the fabulous people, is their openness to my ideas. Every time I visit I get more inspired and more focused on a range of projects that always affect my studio practice upon returning. Graphicstudio understands art making and artists, they understand the process and rarely say no to exploring the boundaries of that process. When my time is coming to an end after each visit I’m devising a plan for my return! I know with every return Graphicstudio will believe in me and commit to my direction with adventurous support.
