1. George Wesley Bellows, N.A. (1882-1925) is known for his bold depictions of urban life in New York City. An innovative printmaker, he worked closely with the great printer Bolton Brown, one of the most significant American lithographers of the 20th century.
2.Edward Hopper, N.A. (1882-1967) trained as an illustrator, studied painting, and then turned to etching, influenced by his colleague and friend, Martin Lewis. Hopper was drawn to night scenes. Both the deep darkness and the unusual viewpoint create dramatic tension in Night Shadows.
3.Martin Lewis, N.A. 1881-1962. Lewis is most famous for his black and white prints, mostly of night scenes of non-tourist, real-life street scenes of New York City. He taught printmaking at the Art Students League of New York from 1944 until his retirement in 1952.
4. Louis Lozowick. 1892-1973. Born in Ludvinovka in Ukraine, Louis Lozowick became best known for his lithographs of skyscrapers, constructions, and machinery, a series spanning fifty years.
5. Christopher Richard Wynne Nevinson (1889-1948).was an English figure and landscape painter, etcher and lithographer, who was one of the most famous war artists of World War I. He made two innovative New York sets that included etchings, mezzotints, and lithographs.
6. Joseph Pennell. 1857-1926. During his lifetime Pennell produced more than 900 etchings and mezzotints and more than 600 lithographs on architectural and landscape subjects He taught printmaking at the famous Art Students League.
7. John Sloan, N.A. 1871-1951. Painter, illustrator, and teacher, Sloan was part of the Ashcan School. His sympathetic, but unsentimental, depictions of urban life and the working class expressed his commitment to social reform
